The Hollow doesn’t have one Santa. It has a whole company of them, each one built for a single job, and none of them can do that job alone.

Every winter there, the stories say, the cold brings out figures nobody remembers naming: a woman who sweeps color across the northern sky and lets it fade on purpose. A knight in ivy who stands guard so shy people can be brave for a second. A boy with one coal in his pocket, more trouble than help until the night it isn’t. A reindeer that only runs on gears and however much hope the town remembers to wind into him.

None of them work by magic exactly. They work because somebody shows up. The Snowwrights don’t build the morning without the children singing them into it. Lady Luminara’s whole gift depends on letting it go. The Clockwork Reindeer stalls out the second everyone forgets to turn the key. That’s the rule underneath all of it: the Hollow’s winter runs on will, not wonder, and the songs are just the town’s way of remembering that every year before it forgets.

Mr. Fudgesicle is that town’s yearly retelling, one character at a time; part carol, part campfire legend, the kind of story that gets passed down the way Frosty was, sung before anybody thought to write it down.
